Tips on Creative Art Grouping
Oftentimes, hanging just one picture on the wall may make it look boring and not
have enough visual impact. Art grouping is a technique of arranging several
pictures of different sizes as one unit. This makes for a more interesting look
and also helps to tell a story if they're similarly themed. Here are some tips
on how to go about grouping your art.
1. For art grouping, always use frames of the same color. This adds some form of
uniformity to the grouping unit.
2. Lay the pictures out on the ground to test out the arrangement before your
put them up on the wall.
3. Start with larger pictures because they're going to be setting the tone, and
then work outwards from there.
4. Choose smaller pictures for narrow walls and larger pictures for big wall
spaces.
5. Have a mixture of pictures that run horizontally and vertically. This gives
it a more interesting look.
6. Make sure the centre point of the grouping is at eye level on the wall.
7. Its difficult to hang 2 pictures next to each other at exactly the same
height, so vary their positioning and give it some variety. This will add a more
interesting and exciting look.
8. Avoid putting pictures of the same color in the same area in the grouping
unit. Mix and match the colors to give it some balance.
